Cancellation Policy

Important: Numinad is a price comparison platform. We do not hold, process, or cancel reservations. This page explains how cancellations work and who to contact.

The Most Important Thing to Know

Numinad does not process or store your car rental booking. When you click 'View Deal' on Numinad and complete a reservation, your booking is held by the third-party provider you booked through — Kayak, Skyscanner, Expedia, Agoda, or the car rental company directly. Only that provider can cancel, modify, or refund your reservation.

If you need to cancel a booking, go directly to the provider where you completed your reservation. Your booking confirmation email is the fastest way to find the right provider and access your reservation details.

Numinad's Role: Comparison Only

Numinad is a car rental meta-search and price comparison engine. Our service ends the moment you click through to a provider's booking page. We do not:

Issue rental confirmations, vouchers, or booking reference numbers. Collect any payment for car rental reservations. Store your booking details, personal information entered at checkout, or driver's license information. Have access to your reservation in any provider's system. Have the ability to cancel, modify, or refund any booking on your behalf.

Think of Numinad the same way you think of a search engine: we help you find the best result, but the transaction happens on someone else's platform, subject to their rules.

Numinad is NOT a car rental company, travel agency, or booking intermediary. We cannot cancel your reservation, process refunds, or intercede with a car rental company on your behalf. Please contact the provider where you booked directly.

How to Cancel Your Car Rental Reservation

Follow these steps to cancel a car rental booking made through a provider you found on Numinad:

  • Step 1 — Find your confirmation email. When you completed your booking, the provider (Kayak, Skyscanner, Expedia, Agoda, or the rental company) sent a confirmation email to the address you provided at checkout. This email contains your booking reference number, the provider's cancellation instructions, and contact details.
  • Step 2 — Check the cancellation terms. Your confirmation email or the provider's booking management page will show whether your reservation is eligible for free cancellation and the deadline for cancelling without charge. These terms were set at the time of booking and vary by rate type (free cancellation vs. non-refundable).
  • Step 3 — Log in to the provider's platform. Most major booking platforms allow you to manage and cancel your reservation online: visit the provider's website, locate the 'My Bookings' or 'Manage Reservation' section, and find your booking using your reference number and email address.
  • Step 4 — Contact the provider if needed. If you cannot manage the cancellation online, contact the provider's customer service directly. Use the contact information in your confirmation email, not a general web search, to ensure you reach the correct team.
  • Step 5 — Confirm the cancellation. After cancelling, you should receive a cancellation confirmation email. Keep this for your records, especially if a refund is expected.

How to Reach Major Booking Providers

If you booked through one of the following providers after clicking a Numinad link, here is how to access their cancellation and booking management tools:

  • Kayak: Visit kayak.com and navigate to 'Trips' or 'My Account' to find your booking. Kayak acts as a comparison and booking intermediary and may direct you to the underlying rental company for final cancellation.
  • Skyscanner: Visit skyscanner.com and go to 'My Bookings'. Note that Skyscanner's car rental deals often redirect you directly to the rental company or a partner OTA to complete the booking, so your booking may be held there rather than with Skyscanner itself.
  • Expedia: Visit expedia.com and navigate to 'My Trips'. Expedia holds many car rental bookings directly and offers online cancellation for eligible reservations.
  • Agoda: Visit agoda.com and go to 'Manage Booking'. Agoda provides car rental bookings in select markets and offers online cancellation management.
  • Direct Rental Company (Hertz, Enterprise, Avis, Budget, Sixt, etc.): If you booked directly with a car rental company after clicking through from Numinad, visit their website and look for 'Manage Reservation', 'My Bookings', or 'Cancel Reservation'. You will need your booking reference number.
  • If you are unsure which provider holds your booking, check your email inbox for a confirmation email sent around the time you completed the reservation.

Free Cancellation: What It Means

Many car rental deals include a free cancellation option, meaning you can cancel the reservation without a charge if you do so before a specific deadline. Here is what you need to know about free cancellation policies:

  • Cancellation deadlines vary: Most providers offering free cancellation require you to cancel at least 24 to 48 hours before your scheduled pickup time. Some require cancellation up to 72 hours before pickup. The specific deadline is stated in your booking confirmation.
  • Time zones matter: Cancellation deadlines are typically based on the local time at the pickup location. A '48-hour' policy means 48 hours before your pickup time in the location's time zone, not your home time zone.
  • Non-refundable rates are cheaper but carry risk: Many search results include both free-cancellation rates and lower-priced non-refundable rates. Non-refundable means you will be charged the full amount even if you cancel or do not pick up the vehicle.
  • Numinad labels cancellation policy when available: Where provider APIs supply this information, Numinad displays whether a rate includes free cancellation. However, always verify the cancellation terms in your booking confirmation before assuming a rate is cancellable.
  • Modifications may be treated as cancellations: Some providers treat changes to pickup date, time, location, or vehicle category as a cancellation of the original booking and creation of a new one. This can affect refund eligibility. Check your provider's modification policy before making changes.

Refunds: Timelines and What to Expect

Refund processing is entirely the responsibility of the provider where you made your booking. Numinad does not have any role in processing refunds. General guidance on what to expect:

  • Credit card refunds: Typically take 5 to 10 business days to appear on your statement after the provider confirms the cancellation and initiates the refund. Some banks process refunds faster; others take longer.
  • Debit card refunds: May take longer than credit card refunds — sometimes up to 10 to 15 business days — depending on your bank's processing times.
  • PayPal and digital wallet refunds: Usually faster, often appearing within 3 to 5 business days after the provider confirms the refund.
  • Partial refunds: If you cancel after the free cancellation window but before the pickup date, some providers offer partial refunds. The amount depends on the specific rate terms.
  • No-shows: If you do not pick up the vehicle and do not cancel, most providers will charge you the full booking amount. Some providers may offer a partial credit at their discretion.
  • If you have waited longer than expected for a refund and have already confirmed the cancellation with the provider, contact the provider's customer service team with your cancellation reference number. If the provider is unresponsive, you may also consider initiating a dispute with your credit card company or bank.

  • Technical platform issues: If you experienced a bug, broken link, or error on the Numinad platform that may have affected your ability to complete a booking as intended, contact us at numinad-support@gmail.com and we will investigate.

If Your Provider Is Unresponsive or You Have a Dispute

In the rare case that a provider is unresponsive to your cancellation or refund request, or if you believe you have been charged incorrectly, here are your options:

Chargeback via your bank or credit card: If a provider has failed to refund you for a cancelled booking within a reasonable time, you may initiate a chargeback through your bank or credit card company. Document your cancellation confirmation before doing so.

Consumer protection agencies: You may file a complaint with consumer protection authorities in your country. In the US, this includes the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and your state attorney general. In the EU, contact your national consumer protection authority or use the EU Online Dispute Resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/odr.

Travel insurance: If you purchased travel insurance, check whether your policy covers car rental cancellation costs or non-refundable rate losses due to trip changes.

Numinad is not a party to any dispute between you and a car rental provider. We cannot advocate on your behalf in disputes with providers, issue refunds, or provide compensation for any losses arising from a third-party booking.
